With the arrival of summer, time seems to speed up for many. Yet for others, the city keeps its steady pulse. Vacations leave urban life quieter, the streets more deserted — sometimes even more desolate under the sun. Images of beaches and relaxation contrast sharply with the reality faced by those living on the margins: homeless individuals who continue to struggle to meet their basic needs, especially as temperatures rise. Summer doesn’t erase these hardships; the need for shelters, showers, and clothing remains — only the challenges shift with the season.
In Sarrià, the Assís Center doesn’t close for the season: it continues its daily work for those who come looking for breakfast, hygiene products, and a clean item of clothing. All of this depends on a network of volunteers that gives strength to the project. This network, which supports more than 350 people throughout the year (a significant majority of whom are women), experiences a significant drop in attendance in the summer due to the holidays. Even so, the commitment remains: to offer human support and basic services to those who need it most, without forgetting that the summer season requires adapting efforts and resources to meet these demands.
